Is this the same as an AI scribe?
It includes ambient transcription and note drafting like a scribe would, plus one more step: Fieldnote identifies the follow-up orders, referrals, and prescriptions from the visit and captures each one as a coded, ready-to-act section of the note you file — not just a transcript.
Does Fieldnote diagnose or make clinical decisions?
No. Fieldnote is a documentation aid, not a medical device — it does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and it does not make clinical decisions. It drafts documentation for you to review; every note and every extracted action requires your explicit approval before anything is written back, and you remain solely responsible for it.
What happens if I edit or reject something it drafted?
Your edits are final. Nothing is written to your EHR until you approve it, and you can change or discard any part of the draft first — see Reviewing the note and actions.
Which EHRs and RIS systems does Fieldnote support?
Epic and Oracle Health first, then any FHIR R4-compliant system. Ask your practice administrator which connections are active for your organization — see Settings.
Is my patients' data secure?
Yes — PHI stays inside our cloud provider's HIPAA business associate agreement boundary, is encrypted at rest and in transit, and never leaves its home region. Canadian data residency is designed in for PIPEDA compliance. See Privacy & security for clinicians.
What happens if I lose internet mid-visit?
Fieldnote keeps recording. Audio is encrypted on your device and syncs automatically the next time you're online — you don't need to restart or redo anything. See Recording a visit: recording without a connection.
How long does EHR setup take for my practice?
It varies by vendor and mostly depends on your EHR IT team, not on us — expect it to be measured in days to weeks rather than minutes. See Connecting Epic / Oracle Health / another FHIR R4 system.
Who is Fieldnote built for?
Independent physicians, small and rural practices, specialty clinics, and radiology groups in the US and Canada — practices that need accurate documentation without an enterprise health-system contract or a lock-in to one EHR vendor.
Do I need to handle patient consent myself?
Yes — obtaining the patient's consent to being recorded is your responsibility, before each recording starts. Fieldnote provides the in-app consent step and a standardized script — see Recording a visit: patient consent.
Does approving an action place an order directly in my EHR?
Not by default. Approving files the note with the action included as a ready-to-act section for your EHR's own ordering workflows — it does not place an order, appointment, or prescription on your behalf unless your practice administrator has separately turned on native order write-back for that connection, and even then, only for the specific action types that connection supports.
