For clinicians
Getting started
Sign in, confirm your device, and start your first visit.
What Fieldnote does
Fieldnote drafts your visit note and the follow-up actions it identifies — imaging orders, referrals, prescriptions, labs, follow-up exams — while you're with the patient. You review, edit, and approve everything before any of it reaches your EHR. See Reviewing the note and actions for how that review works.
Signing in
Fieldnote uses your practice's secure sign-in, with multi-factor authentication enforced on every account. From the sign-in screen, select Sign in and complete your identity provider's prompts, including the MFA challenge (an authenticator app or SMS code, depending on how your practice configured it).
If your organization hasn't finished EHR/identity setup yet, an administrator needs to complete Setting up your practice first.
Sessions time out after a period of inactivity (15 minutes by default) for security. You'll see a warning before you're signed out — see Troubleshooting: session timed out.
Starting your first visit
- Open Today. Your schedule is pulled directly from your EHR — each row is one of today's appointments.
- Find the patient and select Start visit. This binds the recording to that scheduled encounter so the note and actions land on the right chart automatically.
- You land on Capture, where you confirm patient consent and choose a microphone before recording begins. See Recording a visit.
- When you end the visit, Fieldnote transcribes it and drafts the note and actions — this usually takes a few minutes. You can leave the screen; your visit will be waiting when you come back.
- Review, edit, and approve the note and every action. Approving sends it to your EHR. See Reviewing the note and actions and Sending to your EHR.
If a patient isn't on your schedule yet, Fieldnote can't bind a visit to them — ask your front desk to add the appointment in the EHR first, then refresh Today.
Roles in Fieldnote
Every account has one or more roles set by your practice administrator: Provider (records and reviews visits), TenantAdmin (manages users, EHR connections, and practice settings), Reviewer, and Auditor. Most clinicians only need Provider. If you need administrator access, see the Admin guide.
