Settings & audio devices

EHR connections, native write-back, your microphone, and your session.

EHR connections

Settings lists every EHR/RIS connection your practice has set up, its status (Active or Disabled), and when it was last tested. Select Test connection any time to confirm Fieldnote can still reach it — useful after a credential rotation or an EHR maintenance window.

Adding a new connection is a practice administrator task done during onboarding — see Connecting Epic / Oracle Health / another FHIR R4 system.

Native order write-back

Underneath each connection is a Native order write-back toggle, off by default. Turning it on does not change what gets filed to the chart — the note and its ready-to-act section are always filed — it additionally asks that connection to attempt placing supported order types directly. See Sending to your EHR: native order write-back for what this does and does not do.

Audio device

Choose your default microphone here, including any Bluetooth microphone already paired at the operating-system level. This is the same device list as the one on Capture — changing it here changes the default for your next visit.

Region & data residency

Settings shows the data-center region your tenant is pinned to. Patient data for your tenant never leaves that region; it is fixed at signup and cannot be changed here. See Privacy & security for clinicians.

Session

Sign out from here at any time. Signing out — and an idle timeout — immediately forgets the in-memory key used to encrypt any not-yet-uploaded recording audio. See Recording a visit: if a recording shows as lost.
